UpHill
While living in Vancouver, and Charlie at sea, I worked as a real estate assistant showing town homes to perspective buyers. I took this concept, combined it with a lot of the wild characters I had known in advertising, added a huge dose of imagination, and voila! UpHill was born. So, you see, all your experiences in life are never wasted when you’re a writer.
Hillary Wilkes – better known as Lary (rhymes with scary) — is on rock bottom. Once a high-flying television producer, she’s now a discarded 55-year-old, working as a lowly real estate assistant, living in a crappy apartment in Toronto, overweight and under-loved. But never mind all that. This is the year she will regain her glory: find an exciting new career, lose those 20 pounds for good, discover the perfect mate, quit smoking … Ok, maybe not all at once. But with the help of her neighbor Howard, her quirky niece Pumpkin, her loyal brother Roger, best pal Becks, and new friend Dudley, Lary begins her disastrous uphill climb, two steps forward, sometimes two steps back. At this rate, will she ever make it?
