Hi, I’m Jody Overend.

I’m the author of the Bessie Series. I’m also the author of the middle-aged romantic comedy UpHill, soon to be joined by the sequel, Frozen Goldfish.

It all started a long, long time ago (I’m very old now) when I was living as an orphan on an iceberg drifting in the Bering Sea. Wait, that was an idea for a novel. It’s so hard to separate reality from fiction sometimes, isn’t it? Okay, I’ll give it another try.

After a heady, whirlwind career as an advertising copywriter in Toronto in the 70s and 80s, I decided to follow my childhood dream – to write novels. So, off to Mexico I went for a three-month sabbatical. Well, I loved it so much, I stayed three years, working on a dreadful first novel (don’t ask), but at least I made it to 300 pages. As well, I taught English to kindergarten and grade one children, and made fast friends for life. Even better, I fell crazy in love with my future seafaring husband Charlie from Alaska who was spending his off-work winter months in Puerto Vallarta.

Fifteen years passed before I sold my first novel, UpHill.
